Several Firemarks for sale. See descriptions and prices below. Contact us at if interested.
Firemarks are small, iron plates usually oval, that were used in Colonial Times. They were mounted on the front exterior wall of a home to identify which houses were paid members of the local fire company. If you were not a member of the fire company (hence, no mounted iron plate) and your house was burning, they did not fight the fire.
We are selling a collection of seven firemarks. Four are the real thing, dating back to 1830, and the other three are reproductions. In our 24 years of doing business, we have only had two firemarks. If interested in seeing them, send us an email.
